HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR DELIVERANCE.........And Possess Your Possession!

DELIVERANCE:

Introduction

The doctrine of deliverance has been resisted and rejected by many in the body of Christ, yet deliverance is a renewal process for believers. When you begin to feel funny as a child of God or a Pastor, you know that wrong and strange influences are penetrating your heart and it may be time for deliverance.

Maintaining your deliverance talks about holiness after receiving your breakthrough.  If you received your breakthrough through prayers, you must continue to live holy, and avoid sin and immoral thoughts and actions, if you want to maintain the blessing and receive even more blessings.  But, if a person that God blessed, abandons holy living and joins himself with the evil things of this world, the devil will destroy the blessings of God in his hands.

Take for instance, if you notice that you are no longer studying the Word or praying for a reasonable time in the day if you notice you don't have time to pray any longer, or you begin to develop an interest in your colleague in the office, your neighbour's wife etc.  When you see yourself being distracted by the opposite sex, which is not usual for you. You know that you are gradually becoming cold in the spirit, and the devil is around the corner, seeking an opportunity to shift you. At such a point, you must submit yourself for deliverance without delay or conduct a self-deliverance for yourself.

Every believer should be renewed in the spirit, soul and body by the Word of God daily. We all need to purge ourselves of filthiness of the spirit and flesh, which is achieved through study, meditation and doing what the Word says.

Deliverance is necessary and important to our spiritual being and progress.  When there is hardship, stagnancy, and poverty, a child of God should undergo continuous prayer and deliverance seeking to break every chain of the enemy that brought the suffering.  It is in prayer that the root cause of the problem will be exposed.  You should embark on marathon prayer and fasting, and see whether the root cause of your problem will not be revealed.

God ordained it
Deliverance is a continuous process in the life of a born-again Christian because it spiritually cleanses the Body, Soul and Spirit from sickness, diseases and demonic hindrances. It is essential to maintain your deliverance constantly. Obadiah 1:17

“But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance and there shall be holiness, and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”.  From this scripture, we can see that deliverance has another important purpose - possession of your possession.

Releases your possessions

Without deliverance, some people will never take hold of the good things God has assigned to them. Why, because they are spiritually ignorant and wicked people, stronger in the spirit would have diverted those blessings or even put the person in spiritual bondage and separated from the place of his blessing

Now, when a person is prayed for and delivered from spiritual bondages, there is a need for that person to know some deep secrets in order for him/her to be able to maintain the deliverance and also maintain the gains of the deliverance - the goodies that the power of God has released unto him.

Demands holy living
If a person delivered from demonic oppression like spirit husband, lust, fornication and adultery etc goes back to his/her old life, then the spirit will easily return to that life and the position of that person will get worse with the demons returning back into their lives.  This means that if the person had two girlfriends before, once the demons return to his life, he would get more girlfriends, maybe up to six or more.

Such a life will then be so unstable in the things of God and life that you will hardly believe the person had attended a deliverance service. So the right attitude after deliverance ministration is very critical to hold on to the blessing of God flowing from the deliverance.

Deliverance should be maintained

In a nutshell, righteousness and holy living is the simple truth to maintaining your deliverance.  A life of love unto God and your fellow man; a life of faith etc are all important.

The following points, when applied faithfully and continually will help you maintain your deliverance:

1. Holy and righteous living
2. Daily study and meditation on the Word of God
3. Worship God in the beauty of His holiness.
4. Pray continually.
5. Resist the devil and all temptations

1- Lead a Holy Life.

This requires a change of paradigms and a change of lifestyle. You need to change what you think, you need to change what you believe, and you need to change what your preferences are.

Growth requires change. Growing in Christ requires that you take stock of yourself, rid yourself of old ungodly habits, thoughts and actions, and replace these with the new things God is offering you. Throw away the old you and put on the new you. God wants you to grow to the stature of Christ, and to do this you need to achieve holiness.

You may need to rid yourself of old friendships that induce you to sin. You may need to change some habits. You may need to change your manner of expressing yourself. Let the Holy Spirit guide you in this transformation.

One example of changing old habits might be making a decision not to watch R-rated movies any longer, because of the graphic language and sexually explicit content. Do you think the Lord would consider watching R-rated movies a part of living a holy life? The Word says for us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. I doubt that watching R-rated movies renews our minds in a godly manner.

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (Peter 1:15-16).  You have to put off certain attitudes and lifestyles which are corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.

You also need to put on the new man, created after God in righteousness and holiness.  You are renewed in the spirit of your mind, putting on the new man. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him: (Ephesians 4:22-24, Colossians 3:9-10)

2- Read your Bible.
Read your Bible every day--not only read it but study it, absorb it, and make it a part of your daily thoughts and your being. You will get to know God by studying His word.

3- Pray.
Praying is not repeating the same things over and over, like “Our Father who art in Heaven”, etc. You would not talk to a friend this way. If you kept repeating yourself to a friend, he would not want to be around you any longer!

Prayer is conversing with God. Sometimes prayer is just being in the presence of God in a meditative attitude, but not saying anything. The goal of prayer is to have a relationship with Him that moves you closer to Him. You need to take the steps toward establishing this relationship.

4- Resist the devil.
You will know when a demon wants to come back in. Resist him. Speak to the demon and rebuke him in the name of Jesus. Demons will tempt you. You need to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might to resist. By submitting to Him and obeying Him, you will be able to resist the devil.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. (James 4:7-8)

The need to keep your deliverance.
Upon receiving deliverance, you probably heard some demons give their names as they were expelled. If the minister asked the demons what their assignments were in your life, they might have said what it was that they pressured you to think, believe or do.

You need to study it, meditate on it, pray about it and make a determination not to let those demons enter you again.  But if a demon is cast out, the person goes back to doing whatever it is that brought that demon to them in the first place. The demon comes back in.

The importance of maintaining deliverance

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.   Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he comes, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.  Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so, shall it be also unto this wicked generation? - Matthew 12:43-45.

Holy and righteous living, anchored on the word of God is the easiest way to maintain your deliverance.  If for instance,  a demon is sent away from a person, such a person should never return to his old ways, after the deliverance.  If he returns to his usual ways, it is most likely the demons would also return to his body.  This was illustrated in the bible and I must say that the matter is a very serious one.  When the demon comes out of a person (his house), it tries to come back. If the person has not changed and continues in sin, the house is ready to receive some wicked guests.

It is worse than demon possession because the bible says if a demon is expelled from where it was before during deliverance or prayer, the demon will walk on dry land and, seek where next to go.  If it does not get any vacant place to enter, it will say to itself, Let me go back to my former house, and if that demon returns to the house and finds it empty, swept and garnished, the demon will go back and call more demons with it, it will go and call demons more wicked that it and they will enter back into the life of such a person, and the position of that person would be worse than when he/she was possessed.  The “seven other spirits more wicked than himself” is explained thus:

Leviticus 26:18 - And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

Leviticus 26:21 - And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

Leviticus 26:24 - Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

Leviticus 26:28 - Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

Deliverance is a continuous process in the life of a born-again Christian because it spiritually cleanses the: Body, Soul and Spirit from sickness, diseases and demonic hindrances. It is essential to maintain your deliverance constantly. Obadiah 1:17

“But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance and there shall be holiness, and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.” But many people delivered from demonic oppression sometimes find it difficult to maintain their deliverance due to social grouping and personal activities which take people back to the sins of the past and therefore the same demon returns into the person's life.

Good knowledge of the Word of God, obedience to the Word and doing them is among the keys to maintaining your deliverance.

What to do:

Live Holy - The Lord has promised to restore us, but can we maintain the restoration?  In Joel 2. the Lord says "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel and that I am the Lord your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame".

Will you be able to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship?. Will you be able to live a separated life and not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect?

Keep a Pure heart - Can we walk in faith and holiness and let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, and forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Study and obey the word - Can we embrace the Word of God, study and meditate on it daily and do what the Lord says we should do, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have the strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,

Resist Temptation - Can we withstand temptations and trials of the enemy, given that the bible says "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it".

Pray:
1. O" Lord, give me the grace to live a holy and righteous life from today in Jesus' Name
2. Holy Ghost, take all of me and give me all of You in Jesus' name.
3. O'Lord wash my heart in your precious blood daily.
4. O'Lord, have mercy on me, show me mercy in all I do in Jesus' name
5. O'Lord, Help me to please You always.
6. Thank You for answered prayers in Jesus's name
