EFFECTIVE PRAYER
Introduction
God commanded us to pray and God's people who know how to pray effectively enjoy great victories and no problem confounds them.
Prayer is the cure for many of man's problems, whether it is getting a job, husband or wife, money or healing. The Lord has promised that if we ask, we will receive, if we seek, we will find, and whenever we knock the door shall be opened to us.
Remember that the way to knock, when the answer to your prayer is delayed, is to add fasting to your prayer. But if anyone refuses to pray, he will not receive anything from God.
The fastest way to receive your blessing from God is to believe God for them and pray. The scriptures are God’s word and promises for all who believe. A Christian who prays regularly and whose prayers are answered will be a happy Christian.
Jesus says “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:24). When your prayers are answered, your joy will overflow into praises.
Prayer is God's arrangement for his children to be blessed. Apart from what the Lord has decided to give us, every other blessing we receive from God is through prayer. If a Christian refuses to pray, he will not receive anything from God. This is why the Lord Himself charged us to pray in Luke 11:9.
PRAYER IS A SERVICE
Prayer is a service to God for the good of humanity. This is because, when we pray, the plans of God for the good of man is executed in line with our request. It is for this service also that God will only answer the prayers which are in line with His will for the person praying or the purpose.
Whether you are praying for yourself, the church or the nation, you must first discern the will of God for the request you are planning to make unto the Lord and make sure it is in His will, otherwise the prayers will not be answered.
The earth must bind first before heaven will follow suit. The earth must loose anything before the heavens will loose that thing, in accordance with the word of God in Mathew 18:18, which says:
"Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven".
God does not do anything against His will, and so He binds in heaven what has been bound on earth that is in line with His will. The Lord waits for the people on earth (Me and you) to bind what heaven has approved to bind, and then listens to our prayer and then does what we have requested.
Whoever desires to have his prayers answered every time and on all issues will need to understand other spiritual issues like faith in God, righteousness, humility, meekness, forgiveness and many more. God looks at the vessel praying and making declarations to know how honourable he/she is.
For God, the most important matter to settle is the identity of the person making the prayer before he considers the request. Is he/she born again? Does he forgive his offenders? Is he humble?. God would have respect for a person before he considers his request, that is why the bible says the prayer of a sinner is an abomination unto the Lord.
Prayer destroys the works of darkness because the destruction of the works of darkness is one of the reasons Christ came to earth. So if a child of God prays against the works of darkness fashioned against him, it will be answered. In the same vein, when you have a burden to pray, go ahead and pray. You can start by praying in tongues while waiting to hear from the Holy Ghost, the direction and the subject matter.
But, if the burden continues after your prayers, you should add fasting to your prayer and continue until the burden is discharged. Corporate prayer is more challenging to handle. The Minister in charge should wait on the Holy Spirit to direct the prayer, in order to make sure the need of members and the church would be satisfactorily met.
The prayer for the church requires the same diligence.
