THE SPIRIT OF FEAR OF THE LORD

Introduction:

The Spirit of fear of the Lord is one of the seven spirits of the Lord mentioned in Isaiah 11:2-3. The Spirit, together with the Spirits of the Lord, Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Might, and knowledge were in operation in the life of our Lord when He was in the world, to the end that He had a quick understanding of all matters.

This Spirit is part of the Holy Spirit of God, and if we look at the illustrative description of the seven spirits of God, you will see that they are all the manifestations of the Holy Spirit.

it is a priviledge to walk in the fear of the Lord because there is nothing like walking in the fear of the Lord for a Christian.  Walking in the fear of the Lord prolongs life, bring health to your flesh and strength to your bones - Proverbs 10:27.

For a mortal man to love the Lord and fear Him, he would need the help of the Spirit of God.

What is the fear of the Lord?

The fear of the Lord is an awareness that you are in the presence of a holy, just, and mighty God, and that He will hold you accountable for your motives, thoughts, words, and actions.

When you fear the Lord, you will realise your not alone in the room, in your car or in a far country where you have travelled for business.  So, what you will not do in the presence of the Lord, you will not do when you are alone in the closet.

Fear of the Lord should guide your action and conducts when nobody is with you. that is why the bible says the fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death (Proverbs 14:27).

The fear of the LORD leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; he will not be visited with evil” (Proverbs 19:23).

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction- Prov 1:7

4. The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate - Prov 8:13

5. The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man - Eccl 12:13

A Divine Instruction

The fear of the Lord is a command God gave the Jews on their way to the promised, so that they and their children may live long in the place they are going to purchase, but you need the help of the Spirit of God to fear the Lord and walk in His ways.

It is a command the bible puts like this:

1. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!- Psalm 33:8

2. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death- Proverbs 14:27

3. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation - Luke 1:50

4. The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant - Psalm 25:14

To say that a person is God-fearing connotes something about the person.  It means that you are someone others can trust in your judgment and opinion.  It means you have the Spirit of God working in your life.  For instance, it was because the midwives feared God that they obeyed Him instead of the authorities and spared the life of Hebrew babies (Exodus 1:17).

Moses chose leaders to help him on the basis that they feared God and wouldn't take bribes (Exodus 18:21) and fear of God is cited for many godly actions like treating older people with respect, dignity, and honour.  Treating elderly and disabled people with kindness, not showing discrimination between the rich and the poor are acts done in reverence to God.  The bible whoso mocks the poor mocks his creator and lacks wisdom.

Changes the Spirit will make in your life:

The fear of the Lord is far more than Biblical teaching, principle, or idea. It is relevant to our daily lives in many ways.

The Spirit helps us to walk according to the word of God in holiness and therefore naturally enjoy the friendship of the Almighty God.

Whenever you meet a person that fears the Lord, you can be sure that such a person would be kind and humble.  A man who keeps his words and treats others fairly and kindly.  A man that fears the Lord would treat other people as he would expect them to treat him and his children. Here are some of the things it makes us do:

1. Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.

2. Depart from evil and do good

3. Seek peace and pursue it” (Psalm 34: 11, 13-14).

4. Become obedient to His word and voice

5. To love the Lord with all our heart and trust in Him

6. To love the Word and study it daily and obey to do what it says

7. Draws us near to God with all the benefits of being a friend of God. Psalm 25:14

8. Cause us never to speak disrespectfully about God, no matter what happens - Job 1:1.  He makes us honour the Word of God as s an essential part of our life in Christ.

10. Makes us live a holy life - cleansing ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (2 Corinthians 7:1

11. Makes us obey the voice of God and do whatever God says - Gen 22:12

How the Spirit guides your life:

The Spirit of fear of the Lord is the Spirit that prompts and warns people each time they are entering into danger without knowing.  He reminds us of the scriptures on holiness and gives us quick discernment of what is good and evil, to enable a child of God to escape evil appearances.

The Spirit reminds you of what God hates and warns you of the consequences of your actions.  The spirit reminds you that you are standing before the Lord and that God sees everything you are doing and nothing can be hidden from Him.

The Spirit reminds you of important scriptures on holiness, without terrorizing you with them.  He helps us have a proper perspective of ourselves in relation to our God.  The Spirit helps us to consider the consequences of disobeying God, helping us to grow in the spirit.

The Spirit will teach believers to fear the Lord and hate evil, pride and arrogance. this is the spirit that will discourage believers from pursuing vanity or envying unbelievers whose destiny is not in Christ.

When the Spirit is active in your life, you will hate anything that does not come from the Lord, proceeds of corruption you will not touch, neither desire.

The spirit gives you quick understanding of what is good and evil.  Have you heard brothers and sisters on the campus and elsewhere, talk about their courtship days, and how they kept it holy for six months, one year before marriage...It's the  Spirit of fear of the Lord at work in their lives that made it possible.

The Spirit teaches contentment, diligence and perseverance as virtues of holy living.  The Spirit working in a person makes him see things clearly as they are, and no one can easily deceive you or mislead you into error.

13. Evil will be far from you - . The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm - Prov 19:23.

I believe the Lord is speaking to your heart now, to desire the help of the Spirit of fear of the Lord.  Don't resist the advice, pray to God for the Spirit of fear of the Lord to possess your heart and open your eyes and understanding about God's holiness standards.

Conclusion

Finally, my beloved friends, Jesus is coming back very soon, to take believers into a life of peace and joy, without trouble and pains in paradise. If you will receive Him as your Lord and Saviour today, He will give you the power to succeed in life and make heaven at last.

For those who are considering whether to surrendering their heart to Him or not, I plead with them to do so without delay, tomorrow may be too late.

Confess your sins to God and ask for His forgiveness, believe He has forgiven you.  Then ask Jesus to come into your heart, and be your Lord and Saviour.  Believe the Lord has also accepted your request and His Spirit is already inside your heart.

If you made that prayer confession from your heart, know for sure that you are BORN AGAIN. You have also received the power to be the son or daughter of God.  Congratulations, you're born again!
