HOW TO FOLLOWING JESUS CHRIST
One of the things to consider when you are planning to be a disciple of Jesus Christ is the word He spoke in Mathew 11:28-30, which says:
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
He says, comes to me first and foremost for your salvation and rest. Then, learn of Him, take His yoke or His burden upon yourself and learn of Him. This statement means that learning of Him is practical.
It is not like studying the Bible or hearing His story, it is in carrying His burden upon yourself. It is by praying for souls, sharing the gospel, and witnessing Christ to people around you, praying and healing the sick, setting the captives free, and healing the brokenhearted.
He explains further that the work He did is a gentleman's work, so He was gentle, not harsh to people. He did not bully or argue with people about God or even the gospel. For you to be gentle, you have to be lowly in your heart - Humble.
The humility that Christ practiced was seen by all. He was like an ordinary person, meanwhile, He is God. You have to simplify your life and be a person of truth, kind-hearted and helpful to people. He was seen sitting on the same floor, eating the same food with his disciples, to the extent that people could not distinguish Him from them.
He would rise early and go out to pray, we should do the same. We should sacrifice some of the hours we spend on pleasure, wining and gisting with friends most evenings and study the bible and contemplate a particular chapter or verses that speak to us, pray on them and also pray for others. The Lord says, if you do all these and more, you will find rest for your soul.
The Invitation
The invitation is first and foremost, for your rest, after which the remaining changes are expected to begin to manifest in your life.
1. You are to come as you are, but willing to surrender your heart to Christ and become a new creature.
2. Join a bible believing church, if you are not in one already.
3. Get baptized and begin to renew your mind with the scriptures daily.
4. The consistent studying of the Bible, meditating and obeying the Word of God will establish you in the faith, for you are born-again by the word of God in your spirit.
5. Develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and submit to His will in your life.
6. Learn a trade or skill, or get yourself a job...
Please note that the moment you declare your intentions to follow the Lord in truth and spirit, many of your friends and relatives will desert you. So you need an income, so you can pay your bills and live an honest Christian life. The Lord Himself was a Carpenter till the start of His ministry.
7. Love your neighbors as yourself.
8. Develop your faith in God by knowing the trust, believing the word of God and trust Him to perform His word without fail. Also exercise your faith in God by speaking the word and doing it. Pray daily and believe fervently.
9. Remember that hardship is temporal, be ready to endure difficult times.
10. Know that the devil will surely come to tempt you, so be strong in faith, and fear not!
11. Share the good news with other people, become a soul winner.
12. Fellowship with other believers
13. Never cover your sins, rather confess them and ask for mercy
14 Be ready to love your neighbours as yourself.
Conclusion
Finally, my beloved friends, Jesus is coming back very soon, to take believers into a life of peace and joy, without trouble and pains in paradise. If you will receive Him as your Lord and Saviour today, He will give you the power to succeed in life and make heaven at last.
For those who are considering whether to surrendering their heart to Him or not, I plead with them to do so without delay, tomorrow may be too late. Let them say this simple prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I am a sinner and I believe Jesus died for my sins, and He arose for my justification. I, therefore, open my heart to receive Him as my Lord and Savior.
Lord Jesus Christ, come and reign in my heart. Thank You for saving my life, make me Your own from today, and write my name in the book of life.
