President Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday, listed nine areas his regime would prioritise during his remaining years in office.

He listed those priority areas to include improvement of access to quality education, health care, power supply poverty reduction.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving letters of credence from ambassadors/high commissioners of eight countries at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The statement was titled “President Buhari lists nine priority areas to improve the livelihood of Nigerians.”

Adesina quoted the President as saying that efforts were being made to sustain Nigeria’s position as a profitable investment destination with unequalled incentives in all sectors, especially large market and a flexible tax system which investors from various countries can take advantage of.

He said Buhari told the diplomats about Nigeria’s priority, and the need to streamline on people-focused policies.

He quoted the President as saying, “In our efforts to achieve a realistic domestic and foreign policy, as well as national development, we have identified the following nine priority areas to guide our policy directions over the next few years.

“Build a thriving and sustainable economy; enhance social inclusion and reduce poverty; enlarge agricultural output for food security and export; attain energy sufficiency in power and petroleum products and expand transport and other infrastructural development.

“Expand business growth, entrepreneurship and industrialisation; expand access to quality education, affordable healthcare and productivity of Nigerians; build a system to fight corruption, improve governance and create social cohesion; and improve security for all.’’

He said while describing Nigerians as the “nation’s most prized assets,’’ the President said the nine priority mandates were already reflected in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, a medium-term initiative pioneered by the government to restore economic growth and development while leveraging the resourcefulness and resilience of the citizens.

The President urged the diplomats to use the opportunity of working in the country to improve relations with their governments and people.

Prof. Folasade Ogunsola emerges acting VC of UNILAG | Intel Region

Prof. Ogunsola

Brief: Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola (born 1958) is a Nigerian professor of medical microbiology. She specializes in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola is also the immediate past provost of College of Medicine, University of Lagos and is reputed as being the first woman to occupy the position.

University of Lagos Governing Council, led by the interim chairman, Dr John Momoh, has confirmed Prof. Folasade Ogunsola as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The Governing Council at a virtual meeting on Tuesday approved her nomination.

There was jubilation at UNILAG on Monday when she emerged the acting VC at the emergency Senate meeting.

The Federal Government had, last week, asked UNILAG Senate to reconvene and nominate an acting VC following the crisis between the varsity’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Wale Babalakin, and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

The FG also asked Babalakin and Ogundipe to recuse themselves from official duties, pending the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

With her emergence, Ogunsola broke UNILAG’s 58-year record by becoming the first female to be appointed as an acting VC of the institution since it was founded in 1962

CONCLUSION

It is obvious Prof Ogunsola is the right choice, giving the jubilation in the Senate of the school after her selection.  Her experience as the immediate past provost of the college of Medicine is certainly a plus for her.

Friends, Jesus is coming soon.  If you have not yet received Him as Lord and Saviour, I plead with you to do it now.  If you are ready to surrender your heart to Christ, say this prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ.
I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again for my justification. I repent of my sins and ask for forgiveness. I ask Jesus to come into my heart and reign as my Lord and Saviour.

I receive Him by faith, I am born again!
