POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST

Introduction

There is the power to overcome every obstacle in this world through the name of Jesus Christ.  Jesus told His disciples saying "Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it" -  John 14: 13-14.  

Jesus was saying that we should exercise authority over situations and circumstances in His name.  This is because God has highly exalted Him(Jesus Christ) and given Him a name which is above every name, that at the mention of Jesus Christ, every knee should bow.  The bible tells us in the book of Mathew 19:26, that all things are possible through the name of Jesus Christ.

In the beginning, His name was the Word, who created everything that was created according to John1:1, When God sent Him on assignment to redeem man from darkness and death, His name became Jesus - God in human flesh.  He is God the Son, and every prayer to the Father is through His name.  

Apostle Peter and John got the revelation and instantly became miracle workers. Peter did not pray to God to heal the blind man, he just commanded him to rise up and walk in the name of Jesus Christ, and that was it.  I want you to catch the same revelation today.

His name is powerful and available to even sinners, who call on Him for salvation.  If a sinner who cries to the Lord for salvation and deliverance, he shall be saved, for the bible says in Acts 4:12, that there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  

Glory in His name

The glory in the name of Jesus is both eternal and everlasting.  You need to encounter a-death-sentence situation and you invoke the power in His name and see how victory comes immediately.  You are driving and come face to face with accident 'trap'.  The moment you call the name JESUS, a power will quickly shift you out of danger.

When it not your time to die, no devil can kill you because His blood seals you from untimely death.  When you notice affliction in your body, whether it is demonic or medical, before you think of Doctors, you speak death to such sickness in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  That's the end of that sickness.

You have a proposal to defend or an interview to attend.  You have his name to use for your victory.  Your preparation for the interview is not complete until you have prayed in His name.  You will surely pray and claim victory in His name because your human wisdom can fail, your certificates may not be adequate and your connections can also fail.  But His name cannot fail.

Whenever you have an important occasion or business that will change your life for better, do not ignore the name of Jesus Christ.  King Solomon says in Eccl 9:11, that  "I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all"  Many times, it is not how early you get to the venue, or how sharp you are in answering questions posed to you.  If the Lord is not there to speak for you, your experience will not be enough.

The disciples of Christ, Peter and John caught the revelation of the power in the name of Jesus Christ and standing on that knowledge alone, these poor fishermen without any degree in their name healed a lame man, that the man was so shocked that he was walking, leaping and praising God.  The believed in the Son of God and their faith in Him was expressed with few words and boom, an uncommon miracle took place.  

The lame man asked for alms, but the disciples had no money to give.  Thank God they realized they had something better than money, the name of Jesus Christ.  Being fully persuaded, they asked the lame man to fix his eyes on them and Peter says to him: "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have,, I give you:  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk". That was it, the lame man received strength to rise up and walk. Acts 3:1-16

This man was born lame and had never walked until that day.  The bible says he was lame from his mother's womb.  So, through faith in the glorious name of Jesus Christ, the man was made whole.  

People that Knew Him

The Lord, Jesus Christ when He was on earth spent over three years explaining to people who He is, the Messiah that came from heaven, the Holy One from the Father on assignment to redeem mankind.  But many people of His generation did not understand Him or caught the revelation of His eminence.  Few people knew Him and the behaviour of these people was different from many people of Jesus generation.

The first person that understood Him was His mother, Mary.  His parents knew He was the Son of God who came with a mission as the angel told Mary.  The angel told Mary that this Holy thing in your womb shall be called Jesus, for He shall take away the sins of His people.  Angel Gabriel told Mary many things about Jesus. 

His Mother: Because His mother knows Him when they were at the wedding in Cana, she told the people, when their wine finished that "Whatever he says you should do, do it. She knows that Jesus was the Word of God and whatever He says must come to pass.

Disciples: Among His disciples, Andrew, Peter, John.  Andrew was among the disciples of John the Baptist who heard John the Baptist saying  "Behold the Lamb of Son" and he followed Jesus from that day John 1:35-37. Peter and Nathaniel also had a revelation of Jesus Christ.  

When Jesus told Nathaniel that He saw him standing by the tree and he replied saying "Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel from the very first day of their encounter John 1:49.  When many followers of Christ left following Him because of His strong doctrine, which they did not understand, it was Peter that re-assured Him that His disciples knew who He is.  He said to Him, thou art the Christ, Son of the Living God.

His coming fulfilled the Old Testament

Beloved, the Law came through Moses, but grace came through Christ. In Galatians, the bible says Jesus destroyed the curse of the Law and brought blessings to the people.  He is the sacrifice that breaks all curses Col 2:15.  

John the baptist baptized people with water, but Jesus Christ baptized with 'fire'.  John the Baptist did not do any miracles, but everything he said about Jesus Christ came to pass.

His life and ministry were prophesied beforehand by the prophets and in Psalms.  Some of the prophesies include:

1. Luke 4:18-19 saying:  

This scripture captured His divine assignment on earth, which is to preach the gospel, heal the sick and deliver the captives.  It says concerning Him: 

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord".

2. Isaiah 11:1-3, saying:  

"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:   And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.  

And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears"

3. In Luke 1:31-35, Angel Gabriel told Mary saying: 

1.  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

2.  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

3.  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom, there shall be no end.

4.  Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

5.  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Power in His name

Jesus Christ is the gift of God, who is the Light of the world.  He is the resurrection and the Life.  He is the bread of life, the giver of everlasting life and he that believeth in Him has everlasting life - John 6:47,48.  

Jesus has the power to heal any sickness, He has the power to miraculously feed 5000 people with few loaves of bread, He has the power to call the dead back to life.  He has the power to rebuke the wind and storm and walk on the Sea, not just water.

When we use His name in power and miracles happen, He is glorified, not us. Christians are instructed to call on Jesus’ name for protection, comfort, and in order to serve others.  In Matthew 10:1, we read how “Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.” He did not give them a password or a code: just His name.

Our Christians life becomes powerful and meaningful when we acknowledge the power in Jesus' name: ‘And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.’  col 3:7.  In Acts 2:38, the apostle Paul told the people to: “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”   All Kingdom work should be done in His name and for His glory.

Understanding the Power in His name

Question: If the name of Jesus is so mighty, why do Christians fail to recognize its power? Why aren’t we casting out demons and bringing people to a right understanding of the gospel?

Answer:  The name of Jesus is so powerful that ignorance of it is robbing many of God’s blessings and fulfilment in life. The enemy will do anything to keep man in the dark so that he can continue to oppress him. 

The truth is that the power in the name of Jesus brings deliverance from all oppression of the devil and delivers dominion to mankind.  Salvation is in His name – Acts 4:12 (KJV)  and through faith in his name hath made this lame man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Acts 3:16 (KJV)

For you to enjoy the benefits, including healing in the name of Jesus you need to understand the power in the name.   His name gives us our identity as Christians and believers in Christ.

1. Jesus’ name is above every other name - Philip 2:9-11 (KJV)  His name is above any sickness

2. We receive a blessing from God, only through His name.  John 16:23.24 says "And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full 

3. Everything in the life and power of Jesus is loaded in His name.  In Mark 16:17-18, the bible says "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover 

4. Whatever Jesus can do, the power in the name will do it when you use it. 

5. The name of Jesus is a strong refuge.  In Proverbs 18:10, the bible says "The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it and is safe.  The power in the name provides protection, covering for them that believe in it. When you call His name in the time of danger, Jesus quickly shields you from any imminent evil.

6. His name commands instant deliverance when called by faith.  There is healing, deliverance among other things in the name of Jesus. 

HOW TO ACQUIRE THE POWER

The power in the name avails to all who believe in Him. If you can recognize Him as the Prince of Peace, whom God raised from the dead, as God's beloved Son, upon whom the iniquity of us all was laid on Him.  If you know Him as the Saviour that paid the ultimate price for the salvation of man, then the power in His name will also work for you.

The first step in acquiring the power in the name of Jesus is to repent of your sins and confess them to Him.  Ask for forgiveness and ask Him to come into your heart and reign as Lord and Saviour.

Seek Him earnestly through the Bible.  The bible is the revelation of Christ from Genesis to Revelation.  Everything written in the Old Testament is fulfilled with His coming to earth, while the New Testament is based on the new covenant in His blood.  The gospel especially is the life and activities of Christ while He was on earth.  Study the entire bible and know your God, Jesus Christ, His Son and the Holy Ghost.

When you open the bible, don't just look for solutions in the bible, but look for Him JESUS CHRIST, and when you find Him, your solution will come also.  The more you know and understand your Saviour, the more you overcome the devil.

Study the Bible every day and meditate on the Word.  It will gradually renew your mind, thought and behaviour.  Determine to apply the word in your day-to-day living and the more you apply the word, the more your soul conforms to Him and gets stronger.  The more you know Him, the more your soul desire and tend towards righteousness and holiness and hates evil.

Develop your spirit man. When you build up your spirit in the Word of God, you become spiritually strong to discern good from evil.  When your soul is strong, you will experience victory in the battles of life.  It is important to understand that you cannot win any battle if your soul is weak.  This is why the Lord desires that our soul prospers as we prosper financially and materially.  Material prosperity without the soul is a disaster!

CONCLUSION

Friends, it is important that we understand the times we are living.  We should understand that the trumpet could sound anytime soon.  So, the most important thing for children of God is to seek first the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness, after which all other things shall be added to us.

Knowing Jesus, believing in His name is the key to spiritual power and deliverance.  When the devil tries to attack your body with sickness, steal what belongs to you, stop him in Jesus name.  Bind the devil and his demons in the name of Jesus and cast them out of your life and it is settled.

Remember that in His name, you exercise authority over every contrary situation affecting you.  It is not time for you to pray to God, instead, command the situation to change in His name, and it will hear you.

You must have the revelation of His name because, in the day of trouble, your beauty and handsome face will not help you.  When the enemy rises against you greatly, your houses and cars will not matter, your education and luxurious living will not help also.  What will matter is knowing Him and the power in His name.

Receive Him today, don't wait another day!
