PRAYER FOR WEIGHT LOSS


Introduction

What does the Bible say about dieting and weight loss?   God wants us to be in good health.  God wants us to be wise in the food we eat, the quantity and quality.  God wants us to recognize our individual uniqueness, what works for our good health and abide with the best of His creation that will support our healthy living.

For sure, our body is the house carrying our person and all the vision and plan of God for us and those people who are tied to us.  Our body is so important because, if we fall sick and in the bed of affliction, we cannot do anything until we are fine.  You want to travel to the moon, Las Vegas etc, is only possible when you are well and strong.  A sick man cannot do anything until he recovers.

The Temple of God
Another aspect of our body is that it is the temple of the Holy Ghost in us.  If a person does not take care of his body and keep himself physically and spiritually healthy, such a person won’t be able to fulfil the plans that God has for his life.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?

One of the steps that help people to attend to their health is identifying what is good for them and sticking to such food.  Everyone should grow to understand their bodies and what helps them to stay healthy so that you will no longer follow people to eat what they are eating or do what they are doing.

In Genesis 1:29, the Lord  God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.”This was God recommending vegetables for us as food.  Later, after the flood, the Lord allowed man to eat meat. 

In Genesis 9:1-29 “And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand, they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.”This was the first time man was told to eat meat.

God Allows man to eat Meat
Initially, the food of man from the Almighty was fruits and vegetables, then after the fall of man, God allowed man to start eating meat according to Genesis 9 above.  With the entry of meat into the diet of man, came blood-related disease from the animals to man.  

There are many overweight situations that came as a result of eating the wrong type of food for a long time.  When I speak about the wrong food, it is not to be applied across the board.  This is because what is good for Mr A, maybe bad for Mr B.  

A particular food is good, relative to a person's condition and other factors.  I have noticed that daily pay worker, who do laborious jobs eat early in the morning before many other people.  They say they need the energy to do their daily labour jobs.

There are Nurses, who sit in the hospital from morning hours till evening, with little laborious job.  It, therefore, means that Nurses cannot eat heavy food in the morning, given the nature of their job.  If a Nurse continues to eat heavy breakfast in the morning, chances are that such a Nurse could get obesed with time.

There are people who are by nature, slim from birth, that no matter what they eat, they cannot get fat, while there are others with the tendency to get fat.  So, each person will do well to identify what food and timing that suites their circumstance and follow it through.  People cannot copy the eating lifestyle of others.  It does not work that way.

Weight Control
In praying for weight loss, we have to identify the causes of weight accumulation and address them individually.  In the adult, the causes of excess weight include:
1. Junk food
2. Drinking alcohol and eating all kinds of meat
3. Eat at wrong times, like late in the night
4. Working all night and sleeplessness
5. Excess beverages, consumed with bakeries.
6. Lack of exercises
7. Nature of the job and eating habits.
8. Taking body Enhancement Pills
9. Fat injection into the body
10. Body enhancement surgery

Ideal food
1. Vegetable and fruits
2. Real cooked food instead of snacks.
3. Avoid Sugar
4. Avoid many salts
5. Avoid as much as possible, Milk and milk products
6. Avoid white flour products like Cake, meat pie
7. Fatty meats
8. Avoid excessive Carbohydrates
9. Sweet and sweet things are not good for people after 40 years.

Scriptural Assurance backing up our prayers

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Genesis 1:29 “And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

Genesis 1:30 “And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.”

Leviticus 3:17 “It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, in all your dwelling places, that you eat neither fat nor blood.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”


Proverbs 23:20-21 “Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.”

PRAYER POINTS
The following prayers are for people who may be struggling with weight management.  God does not want you to live in an unhealthy lifestyle.  He wants you to be healthy and strong so that you can carry out His purpose for you.

1. Thank Him for power at work in your life.  Thank Him for making you in His image and for creating you beautiful and handsome.

2.  O'Lord, give me the grace to follow through a weight loss program in Jesus name.
3. O' Lord help me to keep to regular exercises daily, no matter how tight my schedule.
4. In the name of Jesus, I take authority over my body to control it according to your words in Jesus name.
5. In the name of Jesus Christ, I take authority over any food that is not necessary for me to eat. 
6. In the name of Jesus, I choose to stop eating sweets and sugary foods, Snacks and other junk foods that are not healthy for me.
7. O' Lord, help me to control my appetite and regulate what to eat and the time to eat in Jesus name.

8. O' Lord, give me the grace to present my body a living sacrifice unto you daily in Jesus name.
9. O' Lord, give me the wisdom to take good care of my body, and your temple inside of me.
10. O' Lord, give me the power never to get into food addiction or eating for the fun of it in Jesus name.
11. O' Lord, help me to make the right lifestyle changes that will help me live healthy in Jesus name.
12. In the name of  Jesus, I reject eating disorder of any kind.

13.  I receive the grace to stand against any food-related addiction in Jesus name.
14. I shall not be controlled by any food, neither addicted to eating in a particular Restuarant in Jesus name.
15. O'Lord, give me a supernatural weight loss in Jesus name.

Conclusion

Success through these prayers will require that you are able to maintain healthy eating and exercise habits over a long period of time.  You need self-discipline and self-control to regulate what you eat and the quantity and time.
