Introduction

As a child of God, born again Christian, you have access to the wisdom of God. Not only will the wisdom of God help you make good decisions in your life, but God’s Word promises that it brings joy, long life, riches and honour.   This is why King Solomon wrote about wisdom in Proverbs 3, saying - "Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.

For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand and riches and honour in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly". Proverbs 3: 13-18.

Wisdom saves and preserves life.  Wisdom also protects and maketh one rich.  I share with us here some of the scriptures on Wisdom and everyone full of the Spirit of God walk in divine wisdom.  King Solomon advised children of God to seek divine wisdom, and make it a priority. It means we should be prepared to pay any price to get divine wisdom.  The reason is that man usually fails in the areas, where he lacks wisdom of what to do. So, If you are struggling with a situation and you seem to be going around and around in circles, not getting anywhere, seek divine wisdom.

If you are sick in your physical body, and you can’t seem to get well, you need godly wisdom about divine health and what to do. If your finances are out of control, you need godly wisdom about finance and what to do specifically. No matter what your problem you are struggling with, the wisdom of God, found in His Word, is the place to start.  Wisdom is a gift that God gives to those asking for it, as we saw in the case of King Solomon.  When you desire wisdom, you will have to ask for it.

Characteristics of Wisdom
You should desire and crave for it, as we can see from experience that it comes with persistence praying and applying yourself to the things you know already.

The Bible says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5). However, people do not realize that it does not come at a twinkle of an eye.  You cannot pray for wisdom one evening and then wake up the next morning full of wisdom.

It is that gentle voice that drops in your ear when there is a decision to be made, saying "Go this way...instead of that way".  It says "Do this instead of that, accept that small land instead of the big hectares they are offering you".  Stay back here, instead of travelling to Canada".  Wisdom speaks to you, She cries to you, especially those that fear the Lord, those that love the Lord.

Wisdom is contagious, godly wisdom cannot be resisted and walking with wise people is another way to learn how to be wise and act as wise men. Let no one deceive you, wisdom is the God-given ability to discern situations correctly and take the right decision.

Components of Wisdom
One of the components of wisdom is knowledge. Wisdom itself is the application of knowledge, which means that wisdom is not standing alone.  You are only wise when you are able to apply the knowledge you have acquired in solving a problem. So, you can have a knowledgeable person, who is not wise, because he is not able to apply the knowledge acquired.  The world is full of intelligent people, who can make the first-class distinction, in their chosen profession or course, yet they cannot solve a simple problem.

This is why you need understanding.  When you have understanding, you are able to reason a matter through, considering all aspects of it and how every ligament fits into the equation. The ability and capacity to dissect a problem into sections of analysis is the pathway to finding the solution.;  It is the work of the Spirit of understanding. A look at Isaiah 11, shows that Understanding is a Spirit of the Lord, and when the Spirit of Understanding is resting on a person, such a person is blessed.  Briefly, wisdom has three basic components—knowledge, understanding and application.  :

1. Seeking and gaining biblical knowledge. Proverbs 1:7 states, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,” while Psalm 111:10 declares that “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom”. Fear (Godly reverence) and genuine respect for God are necessary elements of wisdom.

2. Acquiring as much understanding of biblical knowledge as we can. We should be willing to acknowledge our weaknesses and faults by accepting correction through the Word of God. It is through the study of the Scriptures that we are able to gain greater understanding and wisdom - 2 Timothy 3:15-17.

3. Applying that understanding in our daily lives: seeking above all to please God in the way that we think and act. As we strive to seek and please God, there should be a willingness, on our path to be far from sin and every evil.

Importance of Wisdom

The Importance of Wisdom can be seen from the number of pages devoted to it in the bible. The Bible emphasizes that one of the greatest qualities we can possess is wisdom. The books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are full of wise insights and advice. The first and most important statement about wisdom is that we should get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding also.

Understanding helps the application and manifestation of wisdom.  King Solomon, with all his magnificent wealth and possessions, understood the value of wisdom: “For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her” - Proverbs 8:11. He also stated, “How much better to get wisdom than gold!” - Proverbs 16:16.

Because wisdom helps us to understand the difference between what is right and wrong in God’s sight, acquiring and exercising wisdom will lead to happiness and longevity of life. Let’s face it. Knowledge is not enough to meet life’s problems. We need wisdom, the ability to handle life with skill”

Practical wonders of Wisdom

Below are five wonderful outcomes of the wisdom of God that will help you to experience freedom and success in life every day.  Review them, meditate and applying them, and your life can never remain the same.

1. God’s Wisdom is available.   Every believer has the right to access the blessings of God. He does not give wisdom to some and not to others. He doesn’t withhold any good things from His people. If you desire the wisdom of God regarding any situation or simply as a consistent part of your life, then you can have it. However, you should understand that it comes gradual and I guess, the Lord watches to see if we obey the instructions He is giving us, and applying the wisdom to make the difference that it should make. It doesn’t require that you be a Christian for a certain number of years.

God expects to see evidence of His wisdom in the things you do, words you speak and the actions you take to justify further wisdom release.  Don't imagine that you are blessed with precious instructions from the Lord, just for you to know them...NO!.  The Lord released those instructions to you to make a difference in your life or the life of another person.  Whoever cannot obey instructions, will find walking in wisdom difficult.  THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE LORD ARE WISDOM NUGGETS!

2. You should ask for Wisdom of God
You have to discover your need for godly wisdom and deliberately ask God for it.  The opposite of wisdom is foolishness, and God hates foolishness and foolish people.  If you are a fool, you have no place in the presence of all-wise God.  You a man should seek godly wisdom, and do so, early in life.  You can start with the fear of the Lord, and then go deeper in search of God's ways of doing things, His thoughts on different matters and issues and His ultimate plan and purpose for your life.

When you seek these kinds of wisdom from you, He will surely give them to you, for they are good desires. He will not disappoint you, His Word promises that if you ask for wisdom, He’ll give it to you.

3. God’s Word Is Full of His Wisdom
God has already given a lot of wisdom in His Word. Throughout the Bible, you can learn many lessons, such as: how to face adversity with faith, how to handle difficult people, and how to manage your finances, just to name a few. God’s Word is full of the insights and advice you can directly apply to your life and the situations you face every day.

When you sit down to study the Word of God, praise the Lord for His wisdom, and thank Him that He gives it to you. Ask Him to grant you wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Ask Him to show you how what you’re reading applies to your life, and how you can put it into action.

 4: The Wisdom of God
The truth is that acknowledging and honouring the Lord with your life is a reflection of the wisdom gained already in fellowship.  Man was not born to follow the things of the spirit and to please God.  Many people are saved, but yet they don't know how to please God with their lives.  It is wisdom to know the truth and live by it. The Lord wants you to understand His ways so that certain events and happenings can be clearer to you, but the problem is that His ways are miles apart from the ways of man. – Isaiah 55:8-9

It is because His ways are different, that man should seek to find His wisdom.  Wisdom is never gotten on the surface, it comes by meditating on His word continually and praying.

5. The foolish look
The carnal mind will always see the application of godly wisdom as foolishness.  The natural man cannot handle it, so its important that whosoever has received instruction from the Lord should focus on the assignment.  The people around you may consider what you are doing as a waste of time, but continue and conclude, for it is at the end, or successful conclusion of the project or ideas, that they will see the wisdom in the action.

The enemy will do his best to discourage you, about the wisdom in what you are doing, he will try to remind you of past mistakes and the troubles you have experienced.  Whenever you know the Lord is leading you, ignore the devil.

26. It is wisdom to win souls - The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise - Proverbs 11:30

Using the Wisdom to serve the Lord

The is one area, the bible specifically said that whosoever that wins souls is wise.  This statement means that the issue of soul winning is very important.  Jesus commanded all believers to win souls and share the good news of the gospel to all creatures.  This is the 'Great Commission' that we received from Him in Mark 16:15-16. But today lovers of God are finding it difficult to witness to others, talk less of persuading those people to accept Christ.

Beloved, the night He is talking about is when you are old, when you cannot go out to preach to anyone due to weakness of the body, no matter how willing you maybe then.  He is talking about the dead also, who cannot win any soul any more.  Now is the time to be proud of Jesus Christ and what He has done for you and the entire world and take that good news to all mankind.

Why are you not involved in the great commission? Is it because you are too young, when children are being used by God to win souls. Is it because you have no job and people are mocking you? Is it because you have no child after many years in marriage, but you are alive and healthy.

Is it because God gave you a good husband/wife and children that have made it difficult for you to fellowship with your brethren, let alone go out to evangelize? Is it because God gave you a good job, connected you to a business and suddenly, you have no time to witness Christ.  Remember that night cometh when no one can work.  What about the talent He deposited in you to enable you to fulfill destiny? What are you using the talent to do?
