HOLY SPIRIT IS A GIFT.........To Those that Obey God!

INTRODUCTION:

It gives me great joy to share the word of the gospel with us and so, let us welcome the Holy Spirit afresh into our lives and give God glory for keeping us till this day.

Let us also thank God for leaving the Holy Spirit in the earth yet, for a time will come, when God will withdraw the Holy Spirit from the earth, then the world would know chaos and violence like never before.

When God withdraws the Holy Spirit, the restraining power of God, a major event shortly becoming of Christ, evil will break out from all sides as there will be no power to hinder onslaught of the devil and his agents on earth, hopefully me and you would have been raptured by that time.

I am not discussing end-time events per se, but let us be thankful to God.

CHARACTER AND PERSON OF THE HOLY GHOST:

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Living God, the promise of the Father unto us for the bible says - " John baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence".  This was Jesus speaking to the disciples before He ascended into heaven.

Why should you receive Him, the Holy Ghost? - Reason - you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth - Acts 1:8

The Holy Ghost is the power of God to witness Jesus Christ to the uttermost part of the earth.  This is why the Lord Jesus commanded  the disciples not to proceed to anywhere without receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.  He says to them, "Do not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you have heard from me.

Brethren, you have no power as a child of God without the Holy Ghost. No power to do anything meaningful in the kingdom, until the Holy Ghost has come upon you.  Your commitment in the church and being available in every service cannot raise the dead, but the Holy Ghost will.

You are helpless in the kingdom without the Holy Ghost. Your oratory and Queens English cannot convert a single soul, your human ability to quote the scriptures from Genesis to revelation cannot stop the attack of the enemy on you, if the quoting the scriptures is of the letter and not of the spirit - meaning the Holy Ghost is not involved.

Holy Spirit is the 'Ability to do' all things in the kingdom.  When the Lord says "Tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on High" - Luke 24:49, that endument of power is the ability, grace to do the impossible, and it is the man with the ability to do that wins in battles of life.

As an Evangelist or Pastor, the Holy Ghost gives you the ability to live right - Holy and righteous living.  He make victory easy for you in spiritual battles, and most importantly, the Holy Ghost gives you the ability to live your daily life with heaven in view.

The Holy Ghost is the power of God behind the works of God on earth. He it is, that sends out the 'Kingdom labourers' - Evangelists and Pastors, Prophets etc who are called into ministry.  He will lead and guide them throughout their lives and ministry to achieve the purpose of God. Everyone working in the will of God is led by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus that reveals Christ in us. Jesus called Him the Spirit of truth, who will guide us into all truth, He shall glorify Jesus, for He shall receive of Him and from Him and shall show it unto us John 16:13-14.

How do we receive the Holy Spirit?

In John 14:15-17, 26, Jesus made a profound statement about the Holy Ghost.  He says, If ye love me, keep my commandments and I will pray the Father and He will send you another comforter.

Jesus comforted His disciples while He was with them.  They were not fasting for instance, while the disciples of John the |Baptist and the Pharisees were fasting.  In fact, the Pharisees once asked why this was so, and Jesus said the reason was that He, the Saviour was still around, but when He is taken  from them, then they will have to fast.

So, Jesus says  "If you love Me, keep My commandments.  And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. - John 14:15

When the Holy Ghost came upon the disciples of Christ on the day of Pentecost, it was for them to begin the work of God in earnest.  The Holy Spirit as a gift from the Father comes upon the obedient men and women of God, who are ready to witness Christ everywhere they find themselves - whether in the hospital, aircraft of ship.

And immediately, the Holy Ghost descended on them and they were filled by Him, uncommon boldness entered their lives and the ability to fearlessly teach and preach the word of God became easy.

The Holy Ghost is given to them that obey God - Acts 5:32. The Holy Ghost fills people who obey the word and voice of God to do what He says we should do.  It therefore means that people who manifest the power of the Holy Ghost are people who obey the Lord. No wonder there are many people today who speak in tongues but cannot lift a piece of paper with their prayer, though they blast in tongues uncontrollably - Oh what a powerless tongue.

There are many that speak in tongues, which should be a sign of the presence of the Holy Ghost in their live, but do not know the person of the Holy Ghost or anything called holiness.  The devil has cleverly devised strange tongues for his agents in the church.  They counter the tongues of believers with their blabbing as though we are praying to man.  We have witches and wizards who mimic the tongues we speak in the church thinking it is for outward show...NO, its not for show!

How do we receive the Holy Ghost?

How did the apostles receive Him and got filled?  They prepared themselves and were praying in one accord and boom, the power from on High descended upon them and they were FILLED.

1. We receive the Holy Spirit through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. When we believe that he died for our sins and that he was raised from the death, at that moment we are born again. At that same moment we receive the Holy Spirit.

2.  Repent and be baptized: - Then Peter said to them,"Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."  Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.  Acts 2:38-39,41

What happens if you receive the Holy Spirit?

Great things happen when people are filled with the Holy Spirit.  God practically releases His grace upon us to do all things and to do them well.
1. God gives boldness to proclaim the Gospel (Acts 1:8, 4:31, 7:55)
2. God gives a desire to praise Him (Acts 10:46, Ephesians 5:18-20)
3. God gives a desire to obey Him (Acts 5:29-32, Galatians 5:6)
4. God gives a word of prophecy and works miracles (Acts 11:28, 13:2, 13:9, 19:6)

CONCLUSION:

The Holy Ghost comes for the service of God and doing His work to begin in our lives. We cannot serve God faithfully without the help of the Holy Ghost, neither can we render any acceptable service in the house of God without His help, so every believer who is heaven conscious should strive to be Spirit-filled always.

Many have received the gift in the past but continued in their old ways, thereby grieving the Holy Ghost and making Him ineffective in their lives. So, when a person gives his heart to Jesus, he should be conscious of his new position in the Lord and turn away from his past, so the Holy Ghost can have access to his live to change him into a better christian.

It is God who fills us, and we cannot command Him, but we can pray and ask for the filling and more filling as the days go bye and we face harder challenges in the ministry.  The apostles, when faced with harder persecutions asked God to give them the spirit of boldness to speak the word boldly...and they were once again filled with the Holy Ghost.

Let us live in obedience to God, as unholy living grieve the Holy Spirit and we may not be able to experience the power of the Holy Ghost  as we ought to- Ephesians 4:25-32.

Let us pray with the expectation that God will do miracles and glorify His Son Jesus in our lives and ministry.  Acts 4:28-31.

Let us witness the Saviour Jesus Christ to our generation - Proclaim the Gospel. Whenever the disciples were full of the Holy Spirit , they were often busy teaching and preaching the Gospel and reaching out to people with the good news from house to house.

God  endues us with the Holy Ghost for service, soul winning and not for enjoyment or public show of knowing God...NO! It is to serve Him and accomplish His will.

Beloved, Jesus is coming soon...Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Believe the word of God and His son Jesus Christ, receive Him JESUS into your heart as Lord and Saviour and the Spirit of God to do the impossible enters into your life.

Jesus will give you a new life, victory and eternal life. Will you accept Him today?

Say this Prayer:

Lord Jesus I come to you as a sinner.
I am sorry for my sins, forgive me.
I believe you died for my sins, and was raised for my justification.
Come into my heart be my Lord and Saviour,
Give me the grace to serve You in truth and spirit.
Thank You for saving my soul - I am born again!

His grace be with you all.
