HOW TO RENDER........ ........Acceptable Spiritual Sacrifices unto God!

1. As royal priests, our sacrifices should go up to God daily!
2. His blood cleanses us of all unrighteousness.
3. We are the Temple of the Holy Ghost and Christ lives in us, so doing His will should be easy.

Introduction

Believers are Royal priests unto God.  We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, chosen that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.  This means we should be offering spiritual sacrifices unto God on daily basis.

We were once not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy...to do what?.

We have obtained mercy to live differently from the world and to always praise the Lord.  To live as strangers and pilgrims, and to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.  To always have our conversation honest among the people of all classes, so that, whereas they speak against us as evildoers, they may by our good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

We have also obtained mercy through His sacrifice at the cross to be good citizens of our respective countries, to submit ourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme, or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

For so is the will of God, that with well doing, we may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.  As children of God, never using our liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God, honouring all men, the King, loving the brethren and reverencing (Fear) God.

What is Serving God Acceptably

Serving God acceptable is living in obedience to His word and instructions.  Everything we do towards God or in serving Him, must be in accordance with His will.  It is honouring the Lord for who He is, the Almighty God.  Serving Him acceptably is know that TIMES and season does not change the Word of God, neither His instructions and commands.  The things of God must be done God’s way, not in our own way. Action without appropriate submission to God’s word is not acceptable.

We need to understand how important God values His word that he magnified it above His name.  His word cannot fall to the ground, it cannot come to Him void, No - It must accompany the purpose for which it is sent and the Word of the Lord cannot be altered or ignored.

If we can draw inspiration from the scriptures and the incident that took the life of Uzza, then we will realize the Word of God is God Himself. In those days, the ark of God was in the midst of the children of Israel. It depicted the presence of God, showed them the way to go, it divided the Red Sea, gave them peace and rest of mind. When they were to go to battles, when the walls of Jericho was to be pulled down, the ark was there with them. When the ark was in the midst of the children of Israel, blessings came to them and peace from the presence of God, hence, they carried the ark wherever they went.

A time came when the children of Israel was to carry the Ark back to its proper place and they forgot the instructions that God gave them, never to carry the Ark with their bare hands. That error caused the death of Uzza.

God had ordained and commanded how the ark was to be carried: by the levites on poles resting on their shoulders, in fact, they were not to touch the ark with their hands. But at that time, when they were to move the ark back to its place, they completely forgot about all these important details.

Uzza might mean well, but God called his action a sin. It was a capital sin because man cannot help God and God's instruction must be followed to the later.  God never allowed any man to modify His instructions, No.  Your duty and the duty of man is to obey. So, when a breach was made by Uzza, it was a costly slip and God killed him immediately.

When King David instructed the levites to sanctify and make themselves ready to bear the ark. In doing anything for God, we must sanctify ourselves. Doing something good in the wrong way is as good as bad. Even in doing the right thing, we must not relegate God’s word to the background, the levites eventually carried the ark the way they ought to have carried it in the first place.

Royal Priests unto the Lord
As a royal Priesthood, we are priests of the Most High God, believers in Christ, and the Tabernacle of God.  Jesus Christ lives in us through the Holy Spirit and as such we have no need to go to Jerusalem in search of Solomon's temple to pray.

We are the temple of the Holy Ghost, separated unto His praise and worship and to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable unto God.  Briefly, what are spiritual sacrifices?  Any of the following offered to God in faith and love can be a spiritual sacrifice made to God.

1. Prayer - We are to pray without season - daily.  When all is well with us and when we are facing challenges.  However, we must remember some of the rules as follows:
  • Whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them - Mark 11:22-24.  This is the rule 1.  Believe first and then you will receive.
  • When you stand praying - Forgive those that have offended you and those having any ought against you, quickly go and make peace with them, so that your heart is free from offense, which hinders your answers without you knowing.  That is Rule 2.
  • Pray according to His will and promises.  This means that we should know the will of God concerning many issues we are praying about, so we can order our prayers right. It also means that we should be familiar with His promises to us, so that when we begin to pray, we ask Him to bless us according to His promises - Rule 3.
2. Fasting - Especially Intercessory fasting - As Temples of God, our body is a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God.  We are in the best position to pray and fast for ourselves and others, including the church because the scriptures say the fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

When we wait on the Lord for the Church of God and its activities, when we intercede for souls, when we pray for the saved souls to be firmly established in Christ, we are offering spiritual sacrifices.

3. Praising God Regularly - When we praise Him for His goodness, help and generosity over our lives and others, we are offering sacrifices unto God

4. Worship - This is another aspect of spiritual sacrifices unto Him.  When we worship the Lord and adore Him openly for who He is to us and the Church and the world, when we give special seed offering for kingdom advancement works, when we worship Him with our substance, especially when God directs us to sow seeds even to people or the church, it could be money or property or even our talent and time, if we obey and do the assignment quickly, it is a spiritual sacrifice.

5. Others - There are many other actions we take that constitute spiritual sacrifices unto God like supporting the saints, raising other peoples children etc.  May the Lord expand this in your heart in Jesus Christ name.

Dangers of erroneous Service

1. David had good intentions, he knew the importance and value of the ark but he did not consult the word of God before embarking on bringing it back. Rather he consulted with all the leaders and the people - 1 Chronicles 13:1

All the congregation decided and agreed on bringing back the ark, but no one remembered to consult the word of God on how it should be done. A thousands or millions of people cannot stand up to God. He is God, His will matters most. So, it is crucial to always seek His face before we take any step.

2. Aaron and his two sons were priests before the Lord, serving Him in the sanctuary.  But one day the sons of Aaron went ahead and offered a strange fire unto the Lord.  A sacrifice the Lord did not ask for and the Lord killed them instantly.  In Lev 10: 1-3, "And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not.

And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.  Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

3. God says "I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified"  Whoever comes near to God must honour and worship Him.  That person must be obedience to God's spoken word and instruction.  When God was to visit the children of Israel at Mt Sinai to give them the commandments, one of the instruction God gave them was that none of them should come close to the mountain, otherwise a breach could happen and hundreds of them will die.

4. There is nothing as important as our salvation to get us to heaven. Before preaching, teaching, singing, etc. there must be salvation.

God demands:
– Salvation before Service
– Sanctification before ministry. Matthew 15:13-14
– Sanctification before Soul-winning
– Sanctification before Sacrifice
– Sanctification before giving our Substance

1 Timothy 2:1-4 - First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Ephesians 6:18 - Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
