HOW TO BUILD A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST....

How to Build a Close Relationship With God

Developing a relationship with God is moving close to your Saviour Jesus Christ.  Having accepted Him as your Lord and Saviour, He is in-charge of your life and all you may wish to do. So, if you are a believer and you don't know that Jesus should know and approve every step you take along the line....then the enemy is robbing you of the beauty of your relationship with Christ.

In this conversation, I wish to share some of the ways we can move closer to God and establish a fellowship that will beautify our lives here on earth and help us to make heaven at last.

Although God is invisible to us mortals, He is everywhere with us, the moment we become His own.  And His children do not need to ask where is my God...NO. They know He is with them all the way and that consciousness is important for all believers who desire to do exploit for the kingdom.

This is why King David said in the book of Psalm:

"Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell [the grave], behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall fall on me,' even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You.

"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well" (Psalm 139:7-14).

When a believer is yet to develop that consciousness, he thinks that God is far away in Heaven, while he is on the earth...NO, He is around you and with you through God the Holy Spirit.  Remember our names are engraved on his palm and He cannot forget us. People may forget God, in their quest for earthly glory and fame,  but God never forgets about us.

STEPS:

1. Draw Near to God, and He Will Draw Near to You

Our relationship with God begins when God calls us or draws us. Jesus said, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:44). God draws us to His Son everyday with what we see and hear.  The preachings and teachings on the TV, internet etc; our personal life encounters and experiences are meant to draw us to God and the stories and experiences of others close to us

Christ has come down to earth and has completed the arrangement for you to come to God and so, and the Spirit is released in our hearts. God made a covenant to put His word in our hearts, so that everyone a life knows what is good and bad.

Everyone that is of age, knows what is good and bad.  What is evil and wicked also, because the word of God is in our heart...No one can deny this fact.  Jesus also gave His own invitation to the troubled man with heavy laden to come to Him for rest Mathew 11:28, and as you draw near to Him, He draws near to you (James 4:8).

2. Study and Meditation in the word of God - the Bible

God revealed Himself to us through His Word, so a study and meditation in the word of God is like visiting your heavenly Father and learning at His feat.  The Word of God is God, you gain understanding of the Word through the help of the Holy Spirit.

In 2 Timothy 3:14-17, the bible talks about the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  It continued by saying that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Most believers know that we are actually born -again by the Word.  If you are born again and the word of God is not in your spirit, soul and body, you are probably a religious man and such a christian will be powerless.  The word in you,  that you obey and act upon is the evidence that you are born again.

Studying and meditating on the word enlightens your spirit as it makes you wise i the things of the Spirit.  Without studying the bible, how will you know God and His promises that is meant to bless your life.

No wonder the Psalmist says "Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she (wisdom) is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.

3. Abiding in Christ

As much as it is important to come to Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Saviour, it is vital that all that profess Christ should abide in Him.  Abiding in Him means to live in obedience to His words and instructions contained in the bible.

Our profiting as believers begin when we abide in spirit and truth. That is when we obey the word og God we study and put them in practise in our lives, when we practice what we preach to others and when we make the word of God a standard for our lives' when we moderate our actions to conform with the word of God, then we are abiding in Christ.

Abiding is mandatory as it the way to divine power and all the blessings in the scriptures"

1 John 2:6 -    He who says he abides in Him [Christ] ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

2 John 1:6 -   This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

1 John 2:3 -   Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

What the bible says about Discipleship

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 5:14-16 - “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Luke 14:27 - Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, ...

Luke 9:23 - And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. ...

Luke 14:25-33 - Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Factors interfering with relationships with God

Struggle to be rich - Money: "No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. Do not allow work or business schedule to hinder you from studying the word and renewing your mind daily and also praying.

Do not allow your education to hinder your application of faith, without which you cannot please the Lord.

Let no work schedule hinder fellowship and attending church services and serving in the house of God. God is your source.  Let the business of soul winning and caring for the less priviledge not depart from your heart.

Remember that the cares of this world, greedy pursuit of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful." Mark 4:18-19, so, seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and every other things will be added to you with your hard work and diligence.

Finally on money, remember that money is not evil, but the love of money is a major root of evil. Also those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

The bible speaking in Timothy says - For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  1 Timothy 6:9-10

So, wisdom is required for a believer to prioritize his time and serve His God.  If you fail to give God and the things of God priority, you will end up in religion - Church goer, Church politician and public Analyst and critic of Pastors.

When you don't have time for church, fellowship, studying the word and meditating on the word, know that your work or business, or money or your wife or husband is taking the place of God in your life and your spiritual life would be ZERO.
