HOW TO MANAGE YOUR AGGRESSIVE BOSS ............Before she fires you!

Battle behind closed doors

Managing A Moody Boss

There is a common behaviour among top officers in highly demanding and stressful job positions.  It is called 'mood swing', which if it happens too frequently will make the person to be hypertensive.

This condition makes them unpredictable, they can be your friends now and before you finish your launch and return to the office, you have become an enemy.

New information, favorable or unfavorable triggers off the swing in some of them and suddenly she has become quite, irritable and unhappy.  Madam, what happen?  Is it the MD? or your son will provoke her the more.  They could be the best boss in the world when they are happy or when the Unit is doing well

Moody bosses can be extremely difficult to work with. “One minute they are up, and the next minute they’re down. Depending on the situation or day, they are not willing to engage with others, once the mood change or they become aggressive and snappy. Those who have realized the impact of their mood on others will enter their office and close the door and quickly counsel themselves and return back to their usual selves.

But, let is not be that you are the one provoking your boss mood swing with your poor service delivery, or reports full of error or lateness to the office.  There are some sharp guy who will not understand the instruction before going ahead to carryout the assignment.  And I will always ask "Why carryout instruction you did not understand"?

A chaotic, high-pressure workplace is fertile ground for a moody boss.  “It can be disconcerting to start the morning with a cheery, angelic boss, only to find that by 4 p.m. she has descended to an angry and aggressive woman.  There are many reasons for mood swing, especially in the office, but the phenomenon is high in corporate office where target is very high and the boss and subordinates are constantly under pressure in order not to loose their jobs.

Also, people in highly sensitive positions fall prey to mood swing, because in such places, errors are debited into your personal account for you to pay for the error.  In order places, there are errors and mistakes that lead to instant sack, so people working in highly classified environments cannot afford certain errors in their work and report.

She says people are creatures of their environment, and their boss has a significant role when it comes to setting the overall tone or mood in the workplace. “If the boss is upbeat, and exhibits enthusiasm on a regular basis, then employees tend to follow suit,” she says. “An upbeat, happy team often produces higher quality work, compared to a team that is unhappy.

Instead of leaving a good job because of the mood of your boss, or allowing him or her to sack you.

Here's the points to help you manager her and enjoy yourself in the same office.

Excellent delivery, watch for patterns. - The best of staff is not necessarily the 'Team Player' guy, but the staff who is diligent and fast in completing assignments.  You should prioritize the job that come to your desk and pay attention to high premium jobs and those jobs with time-line and those your boss will like to treat and despatch as soon as possible.  Try and be on top of your job and then watch out for her mood, watch for patterns, such as timing and triggers; see the storm coming and avoid over-reacting yourself,” .

Limit your interactions if their mood is rubbing off on you. Many factors associated with moodiness are out of your control and  so if you can, temporarily limit your exposure to her mood swings and continue doing your job.

Keep your cool. -  If you can't avoid the boss, whatever you do, don’t inadvertently mimic this management style to other staff members. When your boss’s mood pendulum swings to the negative, be a sea of calm. Remind yourself that he’ll eventually come back to center. Show a relaxed, in-control demeanor yourself. “Lighten things through humor and distraction to ‘jam the system.’”

Make sure it’s not you. “Don’t assume it’s just them,” Make sure you are not the cause or anything you did or even your own mood and performance. Are you upbeat yourself? Are you meeting expectations? Some bosses can be moody towards employees when they are not performing to their standards, even though the boss may not have communicated things clearly. So be proactive and figure things out on your own.”

Don’t take it personally. If it is an occasional situation (and you’ve determined it’s not just you that they’re moody with), develop a way to bypass your boss’s bad mood positively.

Don’t trigger mood swings. Once you figure out your boss’s mood triggers, don’t add fuel to the fire just to meet a deadline or get something done. “If tight turnaround time or bad news given out with no solution sends your boss’s demeanor into a nose-dive, take note, be patient and more strategic.”

Pick meeting times carefully. Figure out the best time to chat or check in with your boss. “Approaching your boss near the end of a sales quarter may not be wise, if they are often stressed during that period of time with trying to meet the sales goals. Ask or determine the right time to interact with them, so you avoid times when they might be moody.”

Don’t confront the boss during a mood swing. “This is no time for a street fight,”  “If your boss has swung to the dark side, don’t go on the offense with ‘Why are you suddenly so angry?’ If you have a good relationship with your boss, and all hell seems to have broken loose, you can certainly inquire about what’s wrong.

Be a Professional - Remain focused on your job. “While a persistent moody boss can be exasperating, you won’t make matters better by complaining to senior management, or even making an off-handed joke about it,”  “Chances are it will circle back to your boss. Then you can watch a bad mood turn into a loud fireworks display.”

Be part of solution - When moody mayhem strikes, use your own emotional intelligence to read between the lines. By asking non-threatening questions, or knowing how to put your boss at ease, you’re likely to at least see that wild behavioral fluctuations have little to do with you.
This is what the Bible say about Wisdom

God is all wise, all knowing God.  He loves wisdom, operates in wisdom and love His sons and daughters who walk in wisdom. The importance of wisdom in the affairs of life cannot be ignored.

Wisdom saves and preserves life.  Wisdom also protects and maketh one rich.  I share with us here some of the scriptures on Wisdom and everyone full of the Spirit of God walks in divine wisdom.

Job 12:12 - Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old. (NLT)

Job 28:28 - Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.

Psalm 37:30 - The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong.

Psalm 107:43 - Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.

Psalm 111:10 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Proverbs 1:7 - Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Proverbs 3:7 - Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.

Proverbs 4:6-7 - Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Proverbs 10:13 - Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, but a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding.
