Trust God

KNOWING GOD INTIMATELY.......And How to receive Anything from Him

What is Knowing God? - Knowing God is knowing His ways.
What does it take to know God?
What does it take to begin a relationship with God?

It is an irony of life that man hardly knows where to go and what to do that will benefit him early in life.  Only a few people are able to discern their priority correctly and early in life.  This is probably because of the many distractions in this world and the desire of man to conqueror the world and all that is in itself  an illusion, an impossibility.

Let us thank the Lord for a time like this, when we desire to know the Almighty God intimately.  Personally, I am grateful to God and the Holy Spirit that after many years in life, I am able to apprehend some valid truths about the God Almighty, through our Lord Jesus Christ.  It is therefore a priviledge to share some of them with readers.

Knowing God:

It is amazing that man's natural desire, passion and attention is on the world and even when it takes him several years to reconcile himself back to God through our Saviour, Jesus Christ, yet we hardly identify our most important assignment in the kingdom of God.

This is why we have Christians and believers who do not know their God.  They know about faith, sin, Satan and his agents, but their creator and owner of their life they do not know Him well.

Today, we have sons and daughters of God, even Pastors who do not know the God they are serving.  He seldom speak to them and they feel comfortable.  They have not heard the voice of the Almighty in their affairs for months and they are not disturbed.  This is the reason for the fear and lack of faith that is on every side.  How can you trust God you do not know or have an encounter with?

Let it be made clear in your mind that KNOWING GOD is our first priority after accepting Jesus as our Lord and personal Saviour. There is no other knowledge that will contribute to our joy and happiness as believers in Christ, more than the knowledge of the Most High God.  Knowing God, I believe is the greatest and most important knowledge of all. Without it, everything else loses value.

What is Knowing God?

Knowing God is knowing His ways!

In Exodus 33: 11-15, Moses, God's servant used the opportunity of  his closeness to God to ask the most important question of man .  He says "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend ... And Moses said unto the LORD, Now therefore, I pray Thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, shew me now Thy way, that I may know Thee, that I may find grace in Thy sight ... And He said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he (Moses) said unto Him (God), If Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence."

Moses prayed to God, "Lord, show me now Thy way." And we find in Psalm 103:7 that his prayer was answered: "He made known His ways unto Moses, His acts unto the children of Israel."

He made known His ways to Moses. He made known His acts, or His works, to the children of Israel. So, Moses knew God intimately, while the rest of the people saw the works of God.  There was Enoch in the days before Moses who knew God so intimately that God took him away.  God raptured him alive.

To Know God Intimately Is the Way of Rest: - God says He will provide rest to those who know Him intimately. Verse fourteen says, "My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest." Now if you only know God casually, if you only see God outwardly, if you only see God's works; you will never have rest.

The children of Israel were constantly worried, and murmuring. They saw the works of God. They saw God do His miracles. They saw Him open the Red Sea, give manna in the wilderness, and provide water out of a rock. You'd think they would have had a heart full of rest, but they were constantly murmuring.

They didn't know the ways of God. All they knew were the works of God. So, they grieved Him because they always err in their heart; because they did not know God's ways and caused God to sward in His wrath, They shall not enter into My rest."

There is nothing that will bring rest to your troubled soul like an intimate knowledge of God. They did not know the King of Kings, neither did they understand His purpose for their lives. They did not know the Dependable God, Miracle worker, Johovah Elshadai - the God that is more than enough. The all sufficient God that needs no help from anyone to do to ho His job.

He is the God of all flesh, animals, birds, Lions obey Him.  He is the Most High, who rule in the affairs of men.  Nobody comes to power without His knowledge and permission.  He installs and removes rulers and Kings as it pleases Him and suits His purpose on earth.

God is our Provider.  He is the great provider of all ages.  He provided Manners in the wilderness for 40 years for the Israelites that were over a million people daily for 40 years.  None of them had a farm in the desert, neither was there a river in the desert, but God provided for them and all their needs for 40 years.

No wonder Paul said “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all” (Matthew 6:31-32).  Always give Him thanks for His provisions unto you and your family.

To Know God Intimately Is the Way of Stability - Knowing God also provides stability. Israel, who only saw what God did, was fickle. God parted the Red Sea for them to walk on dry land and yet within days they were murmuring against God.  They forgot the enemies that were coming behind them that caused to cry,  They forgot the Red Sea they have just crossed consumed the entire Egyptian Army including their king Pharaoh.

If you don't know God intimately, you'll not be a stable Christian. You'll be just like Israel was. You'll blow hot and cold. Nothing else compare to knowing God.  Provision and earthly protection  cannot

Moses knew God because he spoke to Him face to face. You won't know God merely by studying about Him. You will only know Him by communion with Him face to face. You cannot love a person until you know his ways, and you cannot know his ways until you spend time with him.  That's what a quiet time is all about. You can't know God if you don't spend time with Him.

Apostle Paul after serving the Lord for many years, shocked the Philippian Christians that he had not arrived in the things of God, because nobody has arrived in the things of  God.  In Philippians 3:8, he said  “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.”

He continued in Ephesians 3:19 to say “And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”  This simply means that  there is more to knowing God than just becoming a Christian. Multitudes of people have received salvation, and if they were to die, they would go straight into the presence of the Lord. But they don’t know God. They don’t know Him as a loving heavenly Father but see Him as a harsh taskmaster.

The church, as a whole, has proclaimed that Jesus died for us to reconcile us to God - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). But it did not stop there, the verse specifically says the goal of salvation is “everlasting life.” And everlasting life was defined by Jesus in John 17:3, which says,

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”  Knowing God the Father and Jesus Christ is eternal life. This is the information that many Christians is lacking - That knowing God is eternal life.  YOU MUST DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO KNOW GOD AND HIS WAYS.

It is a tragedy for you to receive salvation and then stumble through life without experiencing intimacy with the Lord.  That is to miss the most important part of what Jesus provided. That can be likened to what the foolish virgins did - they forgot to take additional kerosene for their Lantern, should the Lord tarry.

If you receive forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus without experiencing an intimate, personal, close relationship with God, then you have missed-out.  Your life will be full of ups and downs, unstable and shallow.  This is because knowing God intimately is what brings His presence home to you.  It is what bring divine protection, direction and abundance.  When you have an intimate relationship with God, you know His ways and His peace will fill your heart.

Do not end up with half measure and your life is full of complain and murmuring against the Lord. This is where the vast majority of Christians live. Many Christians do not know that Salvation is not complete without an intimate relationship with the Father, the One you were reconciled unto in the first instance.

Today, People get saved, without hearing the second part of the salvation message which is to develop a personal and intimate relationship with God the Father.  I don't know why this is so, but it has dealt a heavy blow to the spiritual maturity of many believers, it has also got many stuck and confused.  The good news of our Lord Jesus Christ they heard, they cannot experience it in their lives.  All the promises they learn and read about remains elusive in their personal lives.  They still do not know that knowing God is the real goal of their salvation.

The Apostle Peter said in 2 Peter 1:3-4 - “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

It’s through the knowledge of God that we are able to receive all things that pertain to life and godliness. He has already given them, but it’s knowing Him that allows us to partake of His divine nature, to receive all His great and precious promises, and to escape the corruption of this world. What a deal! Knowing the Word is knowing God.

What keeps us from knowing God?

We have all sin against God and our sin has separated us from God.

There is a distance between the sinner and God, which can be felt in the sense that you are not able to commune with God and hear Him clearly when He speaks to you.  All of us like sheep have gone astray; each of us has turned to his own way."

The result of sin in our lives is death -- spiritual separation from God.  Many of the Christians think that by doing some good works consistently, they are able to get back with the Almighty God.  This is not going to help, as we are not saved by good works.  Doing good for others, religious rituals, trying to be a good person, etc will avail nothing for us, if we remain in sin. But if we repent of our sin and forsake those sinful way unto God through Jesus Christ, we shall be saved.

How Can we know God?

a) For the unsaved -
1. Repent of your sins, confess and forsake them.
2. Accept Jesus Christ into your heart as Lord and Saviour.
3. Give Quality time to studying the Word of God daily and meditating on it.

Why should you accept Jesus?  He is the Son of God sent to die for your sins and for your reconciliation with God. The bible in John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

Jesus Christ paid the penalty for your sin Jesus Christ took all of our sins, the old and current sins as well as the future sins and nailed them to the cross, so that we can be reconciled to God our creator and receive back our life again.

Jesus died for us, and in our place and salvation is a gift from God. It is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it."  We receive salvation when we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour of our lives.  Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life; no one can come to the Father except through me."

Accepting Jesus means believing that Jesus is the Son of God, who he claimed to be, then inviting him to guide and direct our lives. Whenever an individual does this, Jesus comes into that life because He had already issued an invitation to that effect saying  "I'm standing at the door and I'm knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in."

b). For Existing Believers
1. How do you get started in your pursuit of intimacy with the Lord?
2. Begin by spending time getting to know Him through His Word.

Anybody who have visited the President of his country or a high ranking officer of the Military will understand that people plan for such a visit, be it a courtesy call or an official invitation.  That is the mindset required when you want to receive a miracle from the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Exodus 19:9-21, God told Moses to go down and prepare the people for His visitation.  He was to sanctify the people on the first day, they wash their clothes on the second day and on the third, the Lord will come into their midst, upon Mount Sinai.

That was the pre-visit preparation, when the Almighty eventually comes down upon Mount Sinai, the people must also be in-check, so that they do not break through unto the Lord on the mountain, to gaze and many of them perish.

Awaiting for a miracle is actually expecting divine visitation and it required all the preparation and discipline you can gather. Though the examples in the bible should be enough, we will touch on more aspects to this waiting game.is enough.

Many of us are at our best when we have reached our own end. When all our every effort has failed and we are tired of trying, at that moment we are ready to give God a chance to help us and change the situation.  If in as much as we are still trying and doing our own, in the hope of an alternative way to victory, the Holy Ghost may never have full access in the person's life.

Let us look at the biblical examples:

Hannah stopped Eating - 1 Samuel 1:1-19, Hannah first took food away from her mouth and fasted and prayed before the Lord at Shiloh.  Realize that Hannah prayed so much that the Priest Eli observed her mouth and notice she was not speaking anything audible.

She made a vow  -  She took her matter to the Lord with a Vow to return the son to the Lord all the days f the boy's life.  God will always fulfil His own side of any agreement, so when your vow is in the will of the Lord for you, He will answer the prayer and expect us to fulfil our own portion

She Positioned herself in the Church, not at Home - The meeting at Shilor was an annual convention of some sort, but more to than, it is the Lord Himself that called the meeting at Shiloh every year.  So Hannah took advantage of a solemn assembly to present her case before the Almighty God, inside the house of God...She did not sit at home to do the fasting and praying for the opening of her womb.

Sisters who are looking up to the Lord to conceive should take some of these processes serious.

I desire and every once in a while, take issue to the Almighty in prayer at a remote mountain, states away from where I am leaving in Nigeria. I want to confess that there has never been a time when I went to be "Alone with God' without divine revelation and instructions that precedes solution to my prayer.

Additionally, prepare your heart to receive the miracle.  Faith begins from the heart.

1 – Make sure your heart is open and free to receive:
You have prayed with faith in your mind, then begin to visualize your answer.  See yourself carrying your baby because God has already decreed against barrenness in Exodus 23:25-27.  It says there shall nothing cast its young or be barren in the kingdom.

After months of asking in prayer, you could proceed to seek for the solution if you were not seeking before.  You are allowed to ask, seek and knock - three levels of prayer.  There is also the seven levels of prayer when the matter to be broken proceeded from a prophetic pronouncement.

2 – Seeking:
You can then begin to seek for the same thing in the hope that God will direct your path to where you will get it.  When you are looking for job for instance, after praying and seeking God's help for a job, you are duty-bound to begin to apply for jobs in the area of your skill, believing that God will help you.

3 – Knocking:
The knocking stage is the aggressive praying time.  A sister was removed from her position in the office and sent to a less important section as a way to punish her.  When the burst settled, she started daily night vigil and continued in the night vigil for approximately one year...and she was restored back to her originas job and position, and additionally promoted.

When you knock aggressively on the door of the Almighty God, He will answer and turn your sorrows to joy.

4 – Maintain an attitude of Gratitude:
Give the Almighty God continual praise and worship.  Show Him you love Him and depending on Him alone. Thank Him for answered prayers and continue thanking Him till you take hold of your answer.

When Abraham was waiting for his son Isaac, from his story in the bible, it is easy to discern that he was always reminding the Lord about his promised blessing.  It was this persistence that the devil saw and decided to tempt him, using his wife.  Just imagine a woman that has no rival or competitor causing her anxiety coming up to her husband and asking him to sleep with her maid, so they can have a son, even after God had promised them for years.

Reject Satanic Alternatives - So, while praying and believing God for anything, let it be sealed that solution should be the Lord's way.  Close your ears to every advise of the devil, no matter who is the person making you the proposal.  There was a time when Satan entered Peter and spoke to Jesus through Peter, asking Him never to go to Jerusalem to be killed...Jesus of course rebuked the devil in Peter and he left Peter alone.

Don't be Afraid - Still on caution, while waiting, do not be afraid, no matter the turn of events, remember the Lord has promised to stay with you till the end of time.  Saul became afraid of the turnout of events when Samuel did not come within the seven days he said he would come.

The people saw their enemies surrounding them and scattered.  Saul became perplexed, afraid and eventually asked that the sacrifice be brought to him, and he actually offered the sacrifice, which in itself is a strange fire unto the Lord - for the Lord did not demand it from him, but God did not kill him because he was the King of Israel.  However, that was the reason his kingdom was brought to an end in Israel.

Receiving From God!
1. God has made adequate provision for us.
2. But we need faith to draw on them
3. Obedience to His word and Voice to obey them

God has made adequate provision for our needs. As He provided for all that Adam and Eve needed in the Garden before creating them, so has He made provisions for everything we need. Jesus said your heavenly Father knows what you need, even before you begin to pray. Therefore what is remaining is for you to have the faith - Trust that He will fulfill His promises.

Another importance virtues you need is obedience to His word.  This is because some of the promises has commands attacked to them, which makes it difficult for you to draw down such blessings without fulfilling the instructions.

Do you need a miracle or a blessing from God?

You should be a lover of God, the Giver of the blessing.  He made it clear in His word that He love those that love Him.  So, if you do not love God, but love His blessings, you may experience frustration trying to draw down the promised blessings.

While it's not wrong to want to be blessed, the moment we chase after the blessing more that we do for God, there is going to be a problem. Paul warned those that will be rich in this world to be careful.  He says:

"But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts, which drown men in ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all evil. While coveting after money, some have strayed from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:9-10)

Do you want to be blessed? I'm sure you do. Everybody wants to be blessed in almost every area of life: finances, health, relationships, name it. It's a good thing to be blessed. But I think it will be better to obtain the blessing with much sorrow.  Here are some of the requirements for getting blessed according to the Bible.

In Deuteronomy 28: 1-2, the bible made it clear that accessing divine blessing, God’s provision and favor. there are conditions to be fulfilled. It says:   “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God”

The Word of God promises that you will experience the Blessing when you obey Him. It is very important to identify the things that God is asking you to obey and to begin to practice them.

 1) Keep God's commandments

Love the Lord with your spirit, soul, body and with all your strength. Love your neighbour as yourself.  The love command is the most important of all commands in the bible for receiving blessing. God loves to bless those who obey Him. If you love the Lord, then you will have no problem loving your neighbours.  But if you cannot love your neighbours, then the love of the Father is not in you.  In Mathew 25, Jesus said it clearly that if you love and take care of your needy neighbours, visit them in prison, cover their nakedness etc, you are taking care of Him.  Loving your neighbour is loving God.

 2) Honor your parents

God wants us to honor our father and mother no matter how imperfect they may be. This is the first commandment with a promise attached to it, to show how important it is to God that we honour our parents.  And when we do that, God promises to prolong our days on earth Exodus 20:12

3) Asking for the benefit of self and society:

Why be jealous of other Christians when we can ask our Father God to bless us too? James tells us not to covet what others have. Instead, we are to ask God for blessings.

"You lust and do not have, so you kill. You desire to have and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have, because you do not ask." (James 4:2).  James says maybe we're asking God for the wrong reasons – maybe it's because we are jealous of others, or perhaps want to be blessed for selfish reasons. That is so wrong.

James tells us, "You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your passions." (James 4:3)

4) Be a blessing to others

The Bible teaches us the principle of sowing and reaping. Simply put, if we want to reap blessings, we sow it. Choose to be a blessing to others, and see how God blesses you so that you can continue to be a blessing.  Proverbs 11:25 tells us, "The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself."

5) Simply be in Christ

The best way to be blessed is for you to abide in the Lord.  In John 15:7 Jesus said If you abide in me, and my word abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done for you.

6) Paying your Tithe:

In Malachai 3:8-12  God challenged His sons/daughters to bring the tithe into His house and storehouses, so that there will be meat in His house and see the numerous blessings He would release upon them.  He promised to open the windows of heaven and rain blessings upon them.  He would also rebuke the devourer for their sake, so that they will not suffer loss in any area of life,

7) Trusting Him

Promotion and all good blessing comes from God and He gives it to us at His time.  Avoid trying to promote yourself or cheating your customers and business partners to profit, thinking you are smart.  Trust God for your provision, while you continue to work hard. God’s way is better than yours. Resist the desire to take matters into your own hands and instead trust Him for questions or problems you have.

 8)  Have faith in God

In Mark 11:22-24, Jesus Christ asked us to have faith in God and also in Him (Jesus).  He says anytime we ask God for anything, it should be in faith, doubting nothing at all. When we ask in faith, believing we have received what we are asking for, it shall be done for you.

9)  Fear Not

Fear will keep you paralyzed, unable to make Spirit-led decisions or respond in God-ordained ways. Second Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Fear is never of God.

Today is a good day to start experiencing the Blessings of God. Put these principles into practice and you can be sure of a more fulfilling Christian life ahead of you.

Beloved, there is nothing more important for your salvation, spiritual growth and maturity than Knowing the Almighty God.  Begin today to have quality time studying the Word of God.  It is in knowing Him, that your blessing and joy, even peace of mind comes.

For the unsaved, all you need to do is to Repent of your sins and sinful ways, believe the word of God and His Son Jesus Christ.  When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, He will send the Holy Spirit of God to you. The Holy Spirit of God will guides you to the right choices and tells you things to come. He will give you a new life, victory and eternal life.

Will you accept Him today?

Say this Prayer:
Lord Jesus I come to you as a sinner.
I am sorry for my sins, forgive me.
I believe you died for my sins, and was raised for my justification.
Come into my heart be my Lord and Saviour,
Give me the grace to serve You in truth and spirit.
Thank You for saving my soul - I am born again!

His grace be with you all.
